Title: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: Casey Cosker on March 04, 2006, 12:41:29 PM All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder - Sue me. I like it.
Astonishing X-Men - The new story has a slow start Daredevil - The new team seems to be doing a great job. DMZ - I'm on and off this one due to lack of money. Elk's Run - When it comes out. Which is never. Fell - My second favorite comic. Mouse Guard - Adorable. Buy it. New Avengers - I'm on and off this one. Nextwave - Great comic. Buy it. Ultimate Fantastic Four - Currently at its peak Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk - Just plain great. The Ultimates 2 - Best comic out there. (some confusion with Sabrina over starting this topic, apparently) Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: Sabrina Peyton on March 04, 2006, 12:46:59 PM Yeah we both had the same idea twice... I blame the paint fumes in the house.
anyways. Peyton is buying these that I'll read (he buys a bunch of other stuff too but I wouldn't touch it) Mouse guard - I love, it's so cute! Nextwave - Warren Ellis makes comic book crack. Detective comics batman - um, the starman guy is on it which is why I gave it a try. Not hugely a DC person. I'm suposed to read Wraithborn but I keep forgetting Y the Last man Young Avengers Runaways (is that even still going... see, I'm behind) Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: John Davidson on March 04, 2006, 03:44:41 PM Ultimates v 2 - superb
Team Zero - not bad at all Punisher - Ennis continues to shine though the choice of artists is a bit odd sometimes. Red Sonja - sue me, I like this stuff. Daughters of the Dragon - funky and funny. Daredevil - bye bye Bendis. Hello Brubaker. But still pretty damned good. Planetary - when is the next one out ? soon please. Ultimate Hulk v Wolverine - great stuff. Wolverine - Way and Texiera should be doing better than this. Hellblazer - New writer is from Glasgow so I'm giving this a chance...not solid gold yet, but not bad either. Usagi Yojimbo - Stan Sakai continues to delight me month on month. Justice - slow but very interesting. I think the format & schedule is likely to kill it sales wise but I'm betting this will be on a par with Marvels when it is complete. Supreme Power - Hyperion - well written but Jurgems art + Jansons inks just don't work for me. Nextwave - missed #2 -aargh Desolation Jones Ellis is the new Moore :) Fell - great stuff Ultimate Galactus part 3 - intriguing but it needs to break away from the formula of the 1st and 2nd issues before it gets dull. Punisher v Bullseye daft but fun and with Steve Dillon on art it can't be wrong. Sadly I think there is more.... Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: RossS on March 06, 2006, 07:29:26 AM OK. The list is quite long... :-\ I've done my best to break it into sensible groups
The Ultimates - Felt this died a bit last issue, but prior to that the build up had been phenomenal. Ultimate Hulk/Wolverine - Really great story and Yu is doing wonderful work on the art. All Star Superman - Morrison based genius. All Star Batman & Robin - never read batman before so had no preconceptions. It's entertaining if nothing else. Seven Soldiers - Morrsion based ????!!!. Not sure i really get this. I'm hoping it all comes together in the end... Testament - liking this. Has some nice ideas in it and Liam's art is looking good. 100 Bullets - in trade. Brilliant conspiracy, plot within plot thing. Y the Last Man - in trade. Consistently great writing. The art i can take or leave but it suits the book. DMZ - love it. Great concept and well executed by Wood. Lovelss - really not sure about this. Seems a bit slow. I'll give it another 3 issues i think. Neverwhere - Good adaptation of an OK book. Making this...OK. But rather sporadic in release lately. Ex Machina - This has good arcs and bad arcs. But overall I think the chracters have found there feet, as has Vaughan. I like the art here better than Y. American Way - one issue in. the concept isn't exactly new. The execution was average. We'll see where it goes first few issues. Don't really see it as a keeper. Team Zero - nice WS war story. Captain Atom: Armageddon - For someone familiar with the WS universe this has been an unnecessary tour. Hopefully it will go somewhere now all the pieces are on the table. Wildcats Nemesis - For all the crap thrown at this I really like it. Its got the classic fun wildcats vibe. The Winter Men - really liked this russian mob/spy consipircay but my god is it late being released. Planetary - when it comes out Desolation Jones - Ellis doing ellis things. Cable/Deadpool - love cable, don't mind deadpool. This started well but seems to be petering out as the ideas are just drained. X-men - bought Milligans apocalypse issues, but try as i might i just can't find much good about them bar Larocca's art. Astonishing X-men - x-men how it should be. Son of M - this got much better the 2nd and 3rd issues. Actually want to know what happens now. The 198 - district x moves to the mansion. I'm unconvinced. X-factor - as good as Astonishing but for different reasons. Love PADs writing. Just hope they find a good artist to replace Sook. Deadly Genesis - Not as good as one would hope. I feel Bru does better with individuals than teams. Hopefully he can prove me wrong on Uncanny. His Authority picked up toward the end i felt. Wolverine - was buying the Millar issues and stayed on board. Kind of wish i hadn't. The origins endings arc has been pap. Will see if either the new Ramos kick splode wolverine or the other MK serious wolverine is better. Captain America - Brubaker makes me want to read Captain America. There can be no higher praise. Iron Man - Brilliant book and the art is phenomenal but the delays hinder the story somewhat. Iron Man the Casey one - is good. Like Casey's take on industrial espionage. New Avengers - I actually like this. The Ronin arc was a copmplete waste of time, but other than that I think it's been pretty well done. Spider Woman origin - bought the first couple of issues for the Luna Bro art. Not worth it. Fury: Peacemaker - umm its a war story. With fury. Can't say much more after only 1 issue. Hyperion - great writing. I found the art OK funnily enough. Will be happy when we're back to Frank with Squadron Supreme though. Nextwave - best new comic so far this year. Love everything about it. NYC Mech - realy liked the idea of a robot new york and the stories set here are well told and beautifully drawn. Fear Agent - Remender does B movies sci fi in comic form and does it well. Just not really for me. Fell - great stuff. Girls - started well. Best go somewhere soon cos i'm getting bored. Godland - ditto Strange Girl - nice idea from Remender and well written. Art is a nice bonus. Down - quality undercover cop stuff from Ellis Battle Pope - just can't help loving this. All the Star Wars titles - Darkhorse maintains a fairly high level of writing and artistic quality on these books. Only empire is a bit crappy at points. Local - Brian Wood works genius. Particulalry lik ethe writer artist comments and soundtracks at the end each issue. Supermarket - Wood hits the bullseye again. He can do no wrong for me recently. Black Gas - Ellis + zombies = fun Think that's it. Christ I hope so anyway... Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: Mark Peyton on March 06, 2006, 02:06:46 PM Think this is the list

Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: James Dodsworth on April 12, 2006, 08:28:53 AM Seven Soldiers Like what Morrison is trying to do, every mini is great.
The Ultimates Its Hitch. Have my money. Ultimate Fantastic Four Millars mad ideas are the best run on this so far. Ultimate Spider-Man Has its ups and downs, excellent when on form. Ultimate X-Men Kirkman is a breath of fresh air after Vaughn Ultimate Hulk/Wolverine Looks and reads great so far. Ultimate Extinction Peterson is doing nice stuff here. Transformers IDW My guilty pleasure book. Always badly written. Infinite Crisis Nearly there, my inner-geek is enjoying this. 52 Massive DC geek, impressed they are letting Dan Jurgens do the History section. Punisher Ennis should write this until it is prised from his cold, dead hands. Batman/Detective Comics All hail Robinson. And hopefully Morrison. All-Star Superman Issue 3 was brilliant, Vincent is doing a top job. All-Star Batman Batman on crack, funniest thing Ive read in years. JSA Not too convinced by Levitz at the moment. JSA: Classified This is a good series so far, more hits than the JLA equivalent. Ex Machina Harris is great and the political storylines make a nice change from straight forward superheroics. Fury: Peacemaker Ennis again. Great. Runaways A very enjoyable book Nextwave Crazy. This is so much fun. Squadron Supreme Gary Frank is amazing, I have high hopes for this. Astonishing X-Men Whedon/Cassady. Gimme. Justice Braithwaite is a very nice man, and his work on this is lovely. Civil War Just because of the response of people on the net. Albion Vey late, quite confusing. Secret Six - upcoming Y The Last Man Trades. The Losers One trade to go? Fables Trades. Planetary Trades. Next one expected 2099. Title: Re: Currently Reading: Comics Post by: Marlowe on May 03, 2006, 06:09:54 AM Due to unemployment, extreme lack of money (damn those parents and their greed) and the fact that everything costs way more here in Iceland my geekiness cannot be satisfied truly at the moment.
But the following titles I do somehow manage to buy, thanks my craftiness. Nextwave - I do love me some Ellis, yes. All Star Superman - Probably the greatest take on Superman ever. Grant is KING! All Star Batman and Robin - What is going on? But being and incredible Batgeek I can't seem to stop... Astonishing X-Men - Joss rules my mind. You must realize that Iceland has exactly one Comic book store.. It's great, though.
