A friendly disagreement between Mark and myself.

You can guess which one I like better.

A tough one as both bands have suffered from the fact that new albums have generally been terrible.

I like both, seen Metallica 3 or 4 times and they are good live. Managed to see Radiohead this year and it was great.

Not a fan at all of the latest Metallica album.

Everything else they've done I've liked.

Radiohead makes me want to slit my wrists. I've always felt that way though.

Radiohead - musically versatile with a singer whose voice actually changes during a song.

They are also fabulous live.  I would like them to stop piddling about though and go and do a proper album like Bends or Ok Computer.  I quite liked the last album though compared to Kid A.

I've never seen Metallica live, though I would have liked to.

They no longer have my favorite band member so there isn't a point now.

However, if Rammstein come anywhere near Leeds I'm going to see them again.

While I'm not a big fan of ethier. I'd have to go with Metalica for the Win.

Ok their most recent albums were both shite..but Metallica did produce some crackers..

Ride the Lightning is my fav Metallica album.

Load and Reload are arse though. A bit like Kid A and that one I forget....

Load and relaod are pretty tame, but I like them well enough.
Ok I hardly ever listen to them, but I did when I bought them.
Unlike their most recent lack of effort.

I have seen Metallica twice now, once in their glory days of the Black album at Wembly and they were outstanding, bearing in mind they were about the biggest band in the world at the time and the only band who came near were U2 in so far as concert sales etc.

I saw them again in 96 on the Load tour and again I think it wouldnt matter if it was the first or last night of a two year tour, your gonna get value for money, outstanding stuff I would recommend seeing them, preferably indoors rather than at an outdoor show.

Yep I like Muse. Well most of their stuff.

Jen and I have Wembley STADIUM tickets for Muse in June 2007. Oh, yes. There new album is amazing.

Muse are outstanding live James, you'll have a great night.
Rammstein however set shit on fire, ride around the audience in a dingy and cook one member in a pot; there is no better value for money that.

Not that keen on either of them nowadays. Used to like Metallica a bit when I was all hairy and stuff, and Radiohead have had a few singles I've quite liked...

I vote for Metallica over Radiohead.The reason being is that I've seen Metallica live, Radiohead I could not be bothered because life is no that dire.

Also, the some kind of monster documentary is funny.

I own all of the Radiohead and Metallica albums and to be honest they are two different bands. One is about big explosive drunken mayhem. The other is about sadness and isolation.

Except two of the most uplifting songs I know were done by Radiohead.  Street Spirit can pick me up all the time and is fantastic live.

Radiohead can no doubt be uplifting and for myself I find the work saddening yet hopeful, yet as good as uplifting can be, it's not as much fun as a rowdy uptempo Metallica song. The thing is that sometimes you can be in the mood for both, one or the other.

Mark, you need anti-depressants if Street Spirit picks you up ;)


That said, a great melancholy 'lift' can be achieved by listening to music even if the tone is sombre - mine is Soundgarden's Fell on Black Days

The Metallica singer's voice just annoys me.  Does it ever vary?

yes..theres screamy gruff and singy gruff and shouty gruff

whereas Radiohead come in three shades of morose

Well one band is viewed as geniuses and the other is some kind of monster.

miserablists are always perceived as being more artistic..it's the lens thru which they are viewed ;-)

Mumblers can be perceived as artistic too :)

I like monsters.

This talk makes me sad because it reminds me of the last Metallica single and the documentary. I wish the song was better than it is, but the documentary is great family viewing. :D

The movie made me sad...it was like watching Spinal Tap -  made me laugh until I remembered theses guys weren't acting out a satirical script.

Hurrah - Metallica are doing a world tour! Saw them last year in Dublin and they were mental (in a good way).

Bends and OK were great albums from Radiohead, but everything since has been over my head. REM did the same thing after Automatic For The People. It's like they reach a point where they wake up and realise they've become super-successful and almost feel guilty about it. So they excrete an experimental album or two to balance things out. This alienates most of the mainstream following they had built up with their popular album, but gets back the student support.

Smacks of pretentious wankers to me. Can I say wankers here?
