Radiohead every time. Meer been a big Metallica fan.
Muse are outstanding live James, you'll have a great night. Rammstein however set shit on fire, ride around the audience in a dingy and cook one member in a pot; there is no better value for money that.

Very mixed bag. I'm still really unconvinced that the model they have for established creators to hand off ideas to, for the best part, unknowns for execution is a viable one. I think there is a place in the market for the better titles, like Snakewoman, alongside the likes of Vertigo. I don't see the more superheroesque stuff like Devi making any headway against the likes of Marvel and DC. I've also seen every little buzz about the line in general on comic boards so i don't get the sense they really fired many peoples imagination. I'll be interested to see how the Woo and Ritchie created titles pan out.

I dig all kinds of music.

Can't really help with the Celtic I'm afraid, or the surf music. For hebrew, you could try Dhafer Youssef. It's not traditional hebrew mind you it's a fusion of nu-jazz and classic sufi.
As far as ambient goes, Boom Bip is a good bet for something ambient with a twist. Possibly Sasuma Yakota if you don't have any of his stuff. There's something lese on the tip of my tongue too, but it's not coming without my cd shelves in front of me.

General Category / General Discussion / A job, finally...

OK, so after what seems like an age I've finally managed to get a job. It's only 6 months temp doing some drug development work for a biotech company but better than nothing. I start the 15th and as such I'll be re-locating this month to Cambridge. I'm not sure how quickly I'm going to be able to get a house let alone internet so I may be a bit AWOL for a fortnight or so. Good news though. |

OK. The list is quite long... I've done my best to break it into sensible groups
The Ultimates - Felt this died a bit last issue, but prior to that the build up had been phenomenal. Ultimate Hulk/Wolverine - Really great story and Yu is doing wonderful work on the art.
All Star Superman - Morrison based genius. All Star Batman & Robin - never read batman before so had no preconceptions. It's entertaining if nothing else. Seven Soldiers - Morrsion based ?!!!. Not sure i really get this. I'm hoping it all comes together in the end...
Testament - liking this. Has some nice ideas in it and Liam's art is looking good. 100 Bullets - in trade. Brilliant conspiracy, plot within plot thing. Y the Last Man - in trade. Consistently great writing. The art i can take or leave but it suits the book. DMZ - love it. Great concept and well executed by Wood. Lovelss - really not sure about this. Seems a bit slow. I'll give it another 3 issues i think. Neverwhere - Good adaptation of an OK book. Making this...OK. But rather sporadic in release lately.
Ex Machina - This has good arcs and bad arcs. But overall I think the chracters have found there feet, as has Vaughan. I like the art here better than Y. American Way - one issue in. the concept isn't exactly new. The execution was average. We'll see where it goes first few issues. Don't really see it as a keeper. Team Zero - nice WS war story. Captain Atom: Armageddon - For someone familiar with the WS universe this has been an unnecessary tour. Hopefully it will go somewhere now all the pieces are on the table. Wildcats Nemesis - For all the crap thrown at this I really like it. Its got the classic fun wildcats vibe. The Winter Men - really liked this russian mob/spy consipircay but my god is it late being released. Planetary - when it comes out Desolation Jones - Ellis doing ellis things.
Cable/Deadpool - love cable, don't mind deadpool. This started well but seems to be petering out as the ideas are just drained. X-men - bought Milligans apocalypse issues, but try as i might i just can't find much good about them bar Larocca's art. Astonishing X-men - x-men how it should be. Son of M - this got much better the 2nd and 3rd issues. Actually want to know what happens now. The 198 - district x moves to the mansion. I'm unconvinced. X-factor - as good as Astonishing but for different reasons. Love PADs writing. Just hope they find a good artist to replace Sook. Deadly Genesis - Not as good as one would hope. I feel Bru does better with individuals than teams. Hopefully he can prove me wrong on Uncanny. His Authority picked up toward the end i felt. Wolverine - was buying the Millar issues and stayed on board. Kind of wish i hadn't. The origins endings arc has been pap. Will see if either the new Ramos kick splode wolverine or the other MK serious wolverine is better.
Captain America - Brubaker makes me want to read Captain America. There can be no higher praise. Iron Man - Brilliant book and the art is phenomenal but the delays hinder the story somewhat. Iron Man the Casey one - is good. Like Casey's take on industrial espionage. New Avengers - I actually like this. The Ronin arc was a copmplete waste of time, but other than that I think it's been pretty well done. Spider Woman origin - bought the first couple of issues for the Luna Bro art. Not worth it. Fury: Peacemaker - umm its a war story. With fury. Can't say much more after only 1 issue. Hyperion - great writing. I found the art OK funnily enough. Will be happy when we're back to Frank with Squadron Supreme though. Nextwave - best new comic so far this year. Love everything about it.
NYC Mech - realy liked the idea of a robot new york and the stories set here are well told and beautifully drawn. Fear Agent - Remender does B movies sci fi in comic form and does it well. Just not really for me. Fell - great stuff. Girls - started well. Best go somewhere soon cos i'm getting bored. Godland - ditto Strange Girl - nice idea from Remender and well written. Art is a nice bonus. Down - quality undercover cop stuff from Ellis Battle Pope - just can't help loving this.
All the Star Wars titles - Darkhorse maintains a fairly high level of writing and artistic quality on these books. Only empire is a bit crappy at points.
Local - Brian Wood works genius. Particulalry lik ethe writer artist comments and soundtracks at the end each issue. Supermarket - Wood hits the bullseye again. He can do no wrong for me recently. Black Gas - Ellis + zombies = fun
Think that's it. Christ I hope so anyway... |

Hi guys. Since my PhD is now finished and work doesn't seem that forthcoming, who needs immunologists these days anyway, I finally have time to become a bit more involved. Thought I'd review some SW stuff since they're revamping the line.
